IndiEarth On Screen – A Film Lover’s Tryst

Travel by motorcycle across the country, experiencing landscapes of unparalleled beauty, and people from the remotest corners of the planet. Travel back in time for an intimate look at the life of a musical genius, a man who would teach sitar legend Pandit Ravi Shankar what he knew about the art form. Come face to face with the living undead, in a surreal and fantastical battle for survival…

While real life doesn’t always enable us to live these experiences, reel life does. The alternate reality of cinema enables us to travel to lands we would never otherwise see, eras before our time, into the lives of inspiring human beings who we only know from the pages of a history book. IndiEarth bring these worlds to you with monthly screening events –IndiEarth On Screen; evenings that will feature the best of Indian and international independent cinema, from rare unseen films and non-mainstream works of art.

IndiEarth has also been appointed by the Films Division of India as a designated FD Zone for Chennai. In addition to screening films from the IndiEarth platform, the screenings will also feature films from the archives of Films Division of India.

The first of these screenings will debut on Wednesday, July 10th at the Tryst Café, outdoors in the amphitheater from 7.00 pm – 11:00 pm – and will happen every alternate Wednesday of each month. The evening will include three films – the first, Riding Solo To The Top Of The World, documents filmmaker Gaurav Jani’s inner and outer journey as he travels by motorcycle from Mumbai to the remote Changthang Plateau in Ladakh; Baba (1969) – sourced from the Films Division of India’s archive – is a rare short film documenting the life of the legendary Ustad Allaudin Khan, guru of Pandit Ravi Shankar; the third and final film, Rise of the Zombie, is a zombie thriller directed by popular media personality Luke Kenny.

“We would like to showcase the best of Indian and international independent cinema, as well as offer a space for emerging filmmakers to share their work and ideas, as well as nurture new independent cinema audiences”, said Sonya Mazumdar of IndiEarth.

So come out and show your support for independent cinema – and enjoy a tasty nibble or a hot cuppa while you’re at it at the Tryst Café located at Gatsby Village – 4/ 359 ECR – Neelangarai, Chennai.
