This June will witness the isle of Reunion coming alive with four days of pure musical discovery as the fourth edition of IOMMA 2015 (Indian Ocean Music Market) gears up to take place from June 1st – 4th 2015. The IOMMA regional cooperation program is co-financed by the European Union. Professionals from over 20 different countries. Professionals from over 20 different countries around the world will be coming together, including 19 groups from across the Indian Ocean from countries like Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros, Reunion, South Africa, Kenya, Australia and of course India. Over 250 delegates from around the world will congregate in Reunion for four nights and three days, working to create regional networks for artists and connecting them to the world music industry, while simultaneously creating bridges to similar international networks.
As longstanding partner, EarthSync has worked alongside IOMMA over the years to connect artists and professionals from India and Reunion Island, and through its music, film, and media conference IndiEarth XChange many networks and cultural exchanges between the two countries have been created – and as with every year, an Indian delegation will be travelling to IOMMA this year comprising a diverse cross section of Indian industry professionals. The delegation will be working with industry professionals from around the world to facilitate further ties and artistic exchanges between India and Reunion Island, address challenges and support the development of regional music industry frameworks, and facilitate ways to allow Indian Ocean artists to showcase and export their markets worldwide. While past editions of the IndiEarth XChange have facilitated showcase performances by Reunnionais artists like Christine Salem, Nathalie Natiembe, and Maya Kamaty and Mauritian blues trio Tritonik, this year’s IOMMA 2015 will see Indian artists Sky Rabbit, The Ganesh Talkies, and Donn Bhat + Passenger Revelator selected for showcases after their performances at IndiEarth XChange 2014. Tritha Electric will also be performing, while DJ Nucleya is doing a special showcase at the Sakifo Music Festival in Reunion Island and the Zakifo Music Festival in South Africa, having been first selected to showcase in Reunion after performing at XChange 2013. The delegation will then have the opportunity to explore new music and living legends from the Indian Ocean region – as well as other international acts – at the Sakifo Festival 4th – 7th June.
