Reel Time Travel: IndiEarth On Screen

The fantasy of leaving it all behind, exchanging the familiarity of everyday existence for fantastical escapes to worlds unknown and lands far away, often calls out to the creative minded soul. Not many actually listen to that voice and choose instead to keep to their schedules. That’s okay – for those individuals, there’s always the power of reel travel – the ability to travel through the world of cinema to universes beyond one’s own, diving into stories narrated by voices that exist outside our little bubbles and in different corners of the globe.

Amir Khan still

A still from SNS Sastry’s Amir Khan

This is the on screen world that IndiEarth On Screen creates every other Thursday evening in different cities across the country, providing a space where independent cinema can flourish and audiences can get lost in a world of fantasy, animation and documentary reality.

The upcoming edition, happening this Thursday, April 24th at The Humming Tree in Bangalore and The Flour Works in Pune, will feature five films in total – beginning with SNS Sastry’s Amir Khan, a unique portait of the legendary Hindustani maestro Ustad Amir Khan. Bhupendra Mhatre’s Smita is a biographical account of pioneering actress Smita Patil and her on screen portrayals of India’s emerging women’s movement, while Anirban Datta’s Tetris is a self-reflexive tale of a wandering film crew who seem to lose the plot along the way. The two international film selections will include Amit Dubey’s Afterlife, a short fantasy about a man who “has to choose between a tragic past and an unknown future”; and an abstract piece from Mexican filmmaker Txema Novelo titled Eden, a chapter of Still Movie –which SM Posterdives headfirst into the secret realms of music, art, and mysticism.

So come out and share this evening of cinema with other like-minded film lovers. More details available on the Facebook event page here.
