Sapta | Shakthi : IndiEarth At The Park
IndiEarth At The Park enters its eighth edition this August, bringing together independent talent from across genres, countries, styles – all to one stage at The Park Chennai. This Saturday, 2nd August will see the talents of electronica artist Sapta and Carnatic trained fusion vocalist Shakthisree Gopalan taking to the stage to showcase their unique sounds.
The evening begins with Shakthisree Gopalan who graces the stage with her Carnatic rooted vocals, that have a whimsical tendency to venture into the territories of jazz, RnB, and trip hop. With her inspirations being the likes of Norah Jones, U2, Nina Simone, and also AR Rehman (for whom she has sung back up vocals), Shakthisree has experimented to develop her own individual sound and style. An acclaimed singer in her own right, and recently winning a Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer Female (Tamil) for her hit song Nenjukulle, Shakthisree will be showcasing her unique sound at the Lobby Stage of IndiEarth At The Park. Her band that evening will consist of Cherian KK on keys, Michael Dias on guitar and Tapass Naresh on percussion.
Marti Bharath aka Sapta – meaning ‘seven’ in Sanskrit – has his musical roots running deep through India as well as Paris – where he moved to at the age of 18 to study sound and music direction. His compositions have a strong ambient electronica foundation, blended with Marti’s live vocals and a variety of Western and Indian elements. His major influences include the likes of Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk. Sapta will perform on the Leather Bar stage at 10:30pm.
