Striking a Chord: IndiEarth On Screen

Three films. Three cities. Three different perspectives on one topic.

The next edition of IndiEarth On Screen happening on Thursday March 27th will weave through the voices of three different filmmakers, each of whom will narrate a story about a single theme – music.

Opening with rare archival footage of sitar maestro Ravi Shankar, the first film of the evening –Pramod Pati’s Ravi Shankar – documents the musical genius’ creative process and unique personality through a series of interviews and rare concert footage. Shazia Khan’s Sama – Muslim Mystic Music of India – journeys far and wide through some truly awe inspiring locations across India, documenting Indian Islamic music and exploring the diversity of Islamic culture in India. The film is both an exploration of the self and the spiritual quest, as well as an external examination of the evolution of Islamic music in India, its absorption of various cultural elements and its intermingling of different traditions.

The final film of the evening – Ehsan Kabir’s Folk Nations – documents a programme of the same name organised by the British Council Bangladesh. The project is designed to bring musicians, producers, and practitioners from the UK and Bangladesh together in the same creative space, to foster collaborations and nurture the potential for new projects.

Bringing these films to different cities across the country in venues that do their part to promote the arts – The Alliance Francaise of Madras, The Humming Tree, and The Daily –  is part of IndiEarth On Screen’s mission to encourage the growth of the country’s independent film culture. So cinephiles of Chennai, Bangalore, and Bombay – come together this March 27th in the name of independent cinema.
